Accomplishments

World Class was the first kayaking academic program and has a long legacy of successful graduates. Part of the school's mission is to give students the tools to succeed in life. WCKA graduates are leaders that achieve the impossible because at school they learn that anything is possible with hard work and determination. This section is a tribute to them, and their accomplishments.

Hanna Farrar – 3 US Freestyle Team Member – Dartmouth College

  • 3X USA Team Member (2003, 2005, 2007)
  • 3rd Place - World Championships (2003)
  • 5th Place - World Championships (2007)

After attending World Class Hanna went on to Dartmouth College where she is currently a senior working towards her medical degree. Here is what Hanna had to say about the program:

“We challenged ourselves physically and mentally in remote outdoor settings that most people only dream about visiting. My experience greatly influenced who I am now, and the relationships and memories I brought home are unsurpassed and very meaningful to me. I owe a lot of who I am to my time at World Class.”

Rush Sturges – 2003 Jr. World Champion – YGP Film Producer

  • 2003 Junior World Champion
  • 2003 USA Team Member
  • 2004 IR Big Gun Show Launchorama
  • 2004 Winner Best in the West Rodeo
  • "Hail Mary" and "Pistol Flip" inventor

Rush is one of WCKA’s farthest traveled alumni. He is the powerhouse behind the acclaimed Young Gun Production film crew and has spent the majority of his life searching for first descents and pushing the limits of kayaking. After taking the Videography class Rush went on to produce 5 kayaking films.

"World Class gave me the opportunity to paddle and study in different countries around the world. It was a stepping stone toward the next level of kayaking for me. However, it is without a doubt more then just the paddling. WCKA teaches you about the realities of third-world environments and the importance of working as a team. Life long friendships are made and lessons learned that apply to this diverse world we live in. I am extremely thankful to have graduated from such an incredible program."

Dan West – WCKA alumni turned Teacher

Dan West graduated from World Class and went on to earn a Physics degree from Lewis and Clark College in only three years. Dan is now returning for his second year teaching science and film classes at WCKA.

"Kayaking serves as the perfect structure and focus for students who literally have the world as their classroom. Anyone who has been a part of the WCKA community has realized how the combination of school, sport, and travel provides one of the most enriching learning environments out there."
